Juggling Motherhood: Tips for Balance and Peace

Let’s be honest, motherhood is beautiful, but not easy. Being a mom can feel like a juggling act. It doesn’t matter if you are a working mom or a stay at home mom. It’s as if you are on a unicycle trying to balance laundry, sweeping, mopping, work, cooking, etc. Sometimes I feel like I’m…

Sometimes I feel like I’m cracking.

Being a mom is hard, but its also worth it. Relying on the holy spirit is what will help you get through it. Know that he is there for you through it all. He is your strength and your comforter, and we need to rely on the holy spirit. When I am operating on my own strength, the frustration and overwhelm can come quick and fast. I can turn into the angry overwhelmed mom. That is not what I want my kids to remember. Which is why it is so important to spend that quality time with the Lord daily. Even just five minutes, or a quick prayer before you get out of bed. Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all other things will be added unto you. Matthew 6:33

1.Start with Jesus not your phone.

Before you even pick up the phone get in your secret place. Spend you alone time with God. Like Joyce Meyers says, run to the throne not the phone. Even just five minutes of quiet prayer, or reading a proverb can make a big difference in your day.

2. Prioritize Ruthlessly

You can do all things through Christ who gives you strength. However, that doesn’t mean it needs to be done all at once. Focus on what is most important to get done today. The other things can wait. Its okay to give yourself grace.

3. Plan but stay flexible

List are great. I especially love crossing things off them, but life and motherhood don’t follow a script. Having a plan helps, but give yourself grace and space. There will be days that it won’t go according to plan. Like the other day when your toddler accidentally spilled his Cheerios all over the floor. Or the other week when your son forgot his bag on the way to school.

4. Ask for help

Seriously you are not weak or failing if you need support, your human. Whether its your in laws, or a sister, a good friend, or a parent, if they have hands and legs they can help. They can pick up a broom, or even help and take a kid to practice. They can also take them to the park so you can clean your house a little.

5. Make time for you

Self care is so important. And honestly you can’t pour from an empty cup. Schedule 15 minutes to yourself daily. Even if its just locking yourself in the bathroom to eat a piece of candy. You matter to mama.

6. Laugh Often

Laughter keeps you young, and if you don’t laugh you might cry. Its also good for your heart and soul. Joy is important and no one can be too joyful. Laugh and enjoy this season. I know its hard, but they won’t be this small forever.

7. Community is Key

Find your people. Join a life group where you can meet with ladies weekly to grow in the word. Reach out to that mom at soccer who always smiles at you. We were not meant to do this alone. Iron sharpens iron.

To every mom who feels overwhelmed today, you are not alone. This is a season and it will not last forever. I know its hard with all the many hats we wear daily, but just know it is not in vain. My oldest is 21 years old. . He thanks me for all I do for him. He reminds me that I am a great mom. And because i was young I don’t feel like i was the best mom. So if your kids don’t appreciate it now, give them time they will when they get older.

I started all over with my 2 younger children ( 8 and 3 years old). It took me long to find a good man, but it was just Gods timing, and he is never late. I just try to enjoy my time with them, which spending time with God first helps me do. Be present in the moment. One thing that I am learning is life is short, and we can’t ever get back time.
